The idea for this page came up when writing a post. A goals page will give me a way to track and share some of my goals. Click on the goal to see more about it.

Goal 1 – Eliminate Student Loans

Details of my goals including when I added it to this page, why it is important to me, my strategy and my target completion date.

 

Goal 1 – Eliminate Student Loans (Started 12/12/2013)

I graduated with quite a bit of student loans. I feel that having debt may keep me from taking certain opportunities and is a mental weight.

Strategy – pay at least double each month on my student loans. As income goes up increase payments to student loans

Target completion date – January 1, 2017 – Achieved 10/02/2015

This is a big one for me. I made a final payment of over $4,500 to put the final nail in the coffin. I am calling it indebrendence day. Since I first set the goal my income has gone up and I have managed to keep expenses pretty low. It is incredibly freeing to not have to make any loan payments anymore. I think it will hit when my savings really start to grow.

 

 

 

Goal 2 – Have a Positive Net Worth (Started 12/12/2013)

Having a positive net worth will be one step towards paying off my student loans but will also be an important milestone

Strategy – Pay off student loans and continue to contribute to things that build my net worth (401k, IRA, Lending Club etc)

Target completion date – July 1, 2016 – Achieved June 2014

Looking at my Mint account I am over the zero mark. I think one of the biggest reasons is the 401(k) matching with work. On top of the normal match they also give more if the company does well which it has been.

 

 

 

Goal 3 – Attain AU Designation (Started 12/12/2013) (Completed 01/22/2014)

The insurance industry has tests you can take to earn designations. I have achieved the AINS designation. The next is the AU. I have completed 2 of 3 tests and have my 3rd one scheduled for January 2014.

Strategy – Study and take the next test to earn the designation

Target completion date – January 22, 2013 – achieved

 

 

 

Goal 4 – Attain CPCU Designation (Started 12/12/2013)

See AU designation goal description. The CPCU is a step above the AU. I has quite 8 tests and is fairly in depth. Attaining this designation should increase earning potential and make me more knowledgeable at work. I plan on taking 3 in 2014, 4 in 2015 and 1 in 2016.

Target completion date – April 1, 2016 – achieved
